The No Joystick Allowed Challenge is a challenge in which the joystick on the controller is used as little as possible or not at all. Movement typically involves a backflip for a backward movement or a punch followed by a Single Jump for a forward movement.

Changing Mario's angle is difficult in this challenge, and can only be done via a pole, a slope, knockback, walls (e.g. wall jumps) and ledge grabs.
