A Star Dance Clip or SDC is the act of grabbing a star in a way that will make Mario grab a nearby ledge to gain height. It is especially useful in the A Button Challenge
Explanations
When Mario does certain actions, a Dive Recover for example, he is in a state where he cannot grab any ledge. However, grabbing a star will immediately put him in the star dance action, which has the ability to grab ledges. While the animation of the ledge grab does not play, Mario will appear at the top of the ledge just like if it had.
This trick is used often in the A button Challenge, notably to enter Hazy Maze Cave[1] and in a previous strategy to reach the Tiny Huge Island mainland[2].
