Cavern of the Metal Cap is a secret stage where you can unlock the Metal Cap by pressing the green Cap Switch. You can also collect a star here after collecting the eight Red Coins.

A Button Challenge
Entering the course requires a precise dive recover off of Dorrie's head.
The red coin star does not require any A presses to complete, and the switch can be pressed with a precise dive recover off a nearby crystal.
Other Challenges
This star cannot be collected in the Coinless Challenge, CCC Challenge, No Buttons Allowed Challenge, No Joystick Allowed Challenge, and UBER Challenge.
This star can be collected in the Capless/Cannonless Challenge, Pacifist Challenge, B Button Challenge, and Z Button Challenge. It can be collected capless by running over to the four underwater red coins before the cap effect runs out.
There is an unsolved challenge in this course, to reach a Parallel Universe. It is theorized that you can use Hyperspeed Walking to get PU access in this stage in the area with the waterfall, but this is not confirmed.
