The goal of 16 star is to beat the game as quickly as possible without the use of Side BLJ to skip the 30 star door. It's a great category for beginners as it is not very long and doesn't involve any tricks that are overly difficult.

- LBLJ is allowed
- MIPS Clip is allowed
Easy Route
- Bob-omb Battlefield
- Whomp's Fortress
- Cool Cool Mountain
- Bowser in the Dark World (No Reds)
- Shifting Sand Land
- Lethal Lava Land
- Hazy Maze Cave
- MIPS Clip
- Dire, Dire Docks
- Bowser in the Fire Sea (No Reds)
- Bowser in the Sky (No Reds)
Medium Route
This route is potentially ~8 seconds faster than the Easy Route
- Bob-omb Battlefield
- Whomp's Fortress
- Cool Cool Mountain
- Bowser in the Dark World (Reds)
- Shifting Sand Land
- Lethal Lava Land
- HMC Toad
- Hazy Maze Cave
- MIPS Clip
- Dire, Dire Docks
- Bowser in the Fire Sea (No Reds)
- Bowser in the Sky (No Reds)
Hard Route #1 (LBLJ)
This route is potentially ~30 seconds faster than the Medium Route. It is not recommended for new players
- Lobby Backwards Long Jump
- Bowser in the Dark World (Reds)

- Lethal Lava Land
- Haze Maze Cave
- MIPS Clip
- Dire, Dire Docks
- Bowser in the Fire Sea (No Reds)

Hard Route #2 (LBLJ)
This route is potentially ~5 seconds faster than Hard Route #1 (LBLJ), but only if you do Pillarless.
