The Virtual Console is a channel available on the Wii and Wii U consoles that functions as an emulator. You can use Wii Points (discontinued) on the Wii version or a credit card on the Wii U version to purchase games originally released on previous Nintendo consoles. The Wii VC and Wii U VC versions of Super Mario 64 are the rereleases of the game for Wii and Wii U. These versions of the game are emulated, and do not behave exactly the same as the Nintendo 64 version of the game due to differences between the emulation and the original hardware. There are even differences between the Wii VC version and the Wii U VC version, such as differences in rounding errors that can cause glitches. It is important to note that since the Wii U also includes the Wii Menu in its original form, the Wii Menu's Virtual Console is really the Wii VC version (usually referred to as Wii U Wii VC) and not the Wii U VC version.

Bugs in the Virtual Console versions

Including both versions:

  • PU crashes do not occur, as with most emulators
