This sound increases in pitch through an octave in every version of the game except the Japanese N64 and Shindou N64 versions. When the eighth Red Coin is collected, a Red Coin Star spawns at the Star Marker immediately, with no delay. Note that spawning a 100 Coin Star has a four-frame delay.

No Red Coins load during the level, except in cases of a loading zone in the level. Other than Tiny-Huge Island's Red Coins, all Red Coins are found in the main area of a level.
