There are three in-game timers in Super Mario 64: the Koopa the Quick races in Bob-omb Battlefield and Tiny-Huge Island, as well as The Princess's Secret Slide. Achieving the lowest in-game time on these missions is a category distinct from individual level speedruns, because the strategies involve setups before the timer starts that make the entire star take longer to collect. This page keeps track of the TAS and RTA records for these categories.

Footrace with Koopa the Quick

In Footrace with Koopa the Quick, there is a glitch to complete the race with a time of 0'00"0. By triple jumping in Koopa's vicinity with the wing cap and flying in the cannon, you can make the race start when Mario's already at the flag.[1] Since this trivializes the category, records without the glitch are also kept track of.

The TAS record is 0'01"73 by dar gos.[2] The strategy is to BLJ on the elevator, talk to Koopa, navigate to a PU, and do an overflow jump to the flag.

The RTA record is 0'06"8x by Mikko.[3] The strategy is to BLJ on the elevator with the wing cap, talk to Koopa, use the negative speed to get across the bridge, then convert negative speed to positive speed and fly to the flag.

Rematch with Koopa the Quick

Rematch with Koopa the Quick also has a 0'00"0 glitch. This is done by killing the Koopa near the water and leaving the shell. Then triple jump in Koopa the Quick's vicinity and land on the shell. Ride to the flag and dismount.[4] Thus, the records listed are without this glitch.

The TAS record is 0'02"37 by Krithalith.[5] There is no TAS optimized for fastest in-game time. The strategy is to SBLJ on a slope before talking to Koopa.

The RTA record is 0'05"46 by FrostyZako on emulator[6] and 0'09"5x by Drogie on N64.[7] The strategy is to talk to Koopa while in the Shell Mario Glitch and clip through to mountain to the flag.

The Princess's Secret Slide

The TAS record is 0'11"07 by MKDasher.[8] The strategy is the Hyperspeed Slide Kick in the corner (unreferenced wall), then Hyperspeed Wall Kick, then enter the slide with the built up speed and complete the slide with the standard shortcut.

The RTA record is tied for 0'12"20 by NyZ and Taihou64.[9] The strategy is to kick the sign with Mario's back facing the slide, then complete the slide with the standard shortcut.
