The C^ Backflip is a trick that allows you to Backflip facing any direction in the same amount of time it would take to do a regular backflip. It was discovered by Plush and can save a couple frames in some TASes.
It is performed by entering first person mode, moving in a specific direction from a standstill, and pressing Z on one frame, and pressing A on the next frame. Mario will backflip in the direction the player pointed with the joystick.
