This is a guide for how to beat the star Shoot to the Island in the Sky in 0 a presses in an RTA run.
Method
This method is advanced and not recommended for beginners.
The star is too high to collect with a dive recover, so using a transport clone is required. Some important things to note about cloning are: Mario needs to be higher than the Bob-Omb to not get knocked back, grabbing the Bob-Omb and pause buffering until Mario drops it makes grabbing it fake much easier, hat in hand should be used when releasing clones and should then be deactivated by teleporting for setting the HOLP, and any Goombas killed or coins collected are required for the cloning setup. Be careful to not get hit while trying to transport clone, and remember which Goomba needs to be pushed. From here there are two ways of getting to the island. The first way is to slidekick on the shell with the right speed, timing, and angle. This can be made easier by placing a Goomba clone to bounce on for extra distance. This can be done by placing the HOLP just below the spinning heart, which gives a consistent HOLP for a goomba transport clone that makes the shell island hop significantly easier. The other way is to construct a Goomba bridge across (see Find the 8 Red Coins).
