Nahoc's TAS Competition was hosted by Nahoc (and later by NintendoG8mer), following the cancellation of SilentSlayers' TAS Competition. It lasted for 30 tasks, before being cancelled.
It was the first competition to be split into multiple "rounds" (this concept would later return in 2018 with the introduction of sets). Round 1 was won by Nahoc, Rounds 2 and 3 were both won by NintendoG8mer, and the overall competition was won by NintendoG8mer.
It was the first competition to place co-op tasks regularly every 5 tasks. It was also the last main competition to span across multiple years until the 25th Anniversary TAS Tournament (2021–2022). Like its predecessor, it became the longest-running competition of all time, and featured many future long-term community members making their first TASes.

{{main|TAS | TAS Competition 2012
TAS Competition 2012 was hosted by sonicpacker. It lasted for only 5 tasks, with the Nico TAS Competition and the 120 Star TAS taking up the rest of 2012.
TAS | It was the first competition to be named with respect to the year it was run in, starting a trend that has continued to the present day (in both SM64 TAS competitions and TAS competitions in other communities). This has had the effect of causing competitions to be specifically planned to occur annually, with task numbering and scores resetting at the start of each calendar year.

The Nico TAS Competition was hosted by coin2884. It closely followed TAS Competition 2012, with the first new task overlapping with its final task. It lasted for 7 tasks, before being cancelled without Task 7 results released (they were posted 6 months later).
It was the first and only known competition to be organised within the Japanese TAS community. Despite the language barrier, it still attracted the attention of entrants from the "Western" community.

{{main| | TAS Competition 2015
TAS Competition 2015 was hosted by sonicpacker. It lasted for 10 tasks, but was cancelled before its 11th (and final) task was released. It was won by Nis.
It was the first competition of any kind to be run since 2012, after many failed attempts to re-ignite interest in a new one. This marked the beginning of a decade-long stretch (which is still ongoing) of continued interest in TAS competitions, which would go on to inspire not only more within the SM64 community, but also that of other games as well.
It was the first annual competition to begin on January 1st, a tradition which would be repeated in 2018 and 2019.

TAS Competition 2016 | |||
TAS Competition 2016 was hosted by SilentSlayers, with help from sonicpacker and MKDasher. It lasted for 10 tasks and was won by Nis.
It is notable in its legacy from the fact that it was the first and last time pannenkoek2012 entered in a TAS competition. Competing in all 10 tasks, he pushed the limits of rule-breaking and set the benchmark for joke submissions for years to come. The majority of competition rules in the current day are a direct result of his submissions.
It was the final TAS competition hosted on SM64.org, before its shutdown and the community's transfer to Discord in 2017, ending a 9-year-long era of TAS competitions on the website.

It was the first main competition to be hosted on Discord, and utilised the newly-created SM64 TASing and ABC server for advertising. === TAS Competition 2018 ===
TAS Competition 2018 | |||
TAS Competition 2018 was hosted by SilentSlayers, CSZ, tesserakt, sonicpacker, Emilia, Superdavo0001, Non5en5e, and Nis. It lasted for 25 tasks, and concluded as planned when the year ended. It was directly followed by TAS Competition 2019.
It was broken into 5 sets of 5 tasks (similar to the "rounds" in Nahoc's TAS Competition). Set 1 was won by THC98, Set 2 was won by sm64expert, Set 3 was won by tesserakt, Set 4 and Set 5 were both won by MKDasher, and the year as a whole (though not officially tracked) was won by CSZ.
It experienced an unprecedented level of success, breaking numerous records (some of which still stand to this day). It is the most popular TAS competition ever run, amassing 172 entrants throughout the year. Influenced by the splintering of attention from several individually-run competitions, it was also the largest group of community members to come together and run the same competition, until the Multi-Game TAS Competition in 2023.
It introduced many new concepts, such as reveal streams, expansive competition rules, improved scoring systems, mandatory savestates with custom object/enemy locations, triple jump variants, or custom starting locations, and provided resources such as level maps or in-game screenshots.
The task design process was improved, with a team of hosts available to provide fresh ideas. Tasks were now written in a standardised format, aimed at increased clarity and completeness, to reduce ambiguity and misinterpretation. There was a notable increase in task variety and intricacy, with tasks involving much more complex routing becoming more freqent, epitomised in the widely-acclaimed bingo board task.

=== TAS Competition 2019 ===
TAS Competition 2019 | |||
TAS Competition 2019 was hosted by SilentSlayers, CSZ, tesserakt, Superdavo0001, Non5en5e, Nis, Bretaigne, Rush57, and Tomatobird8, as a continuation of TAS Competition 2018. It lasted for 23 tasks, and concluded as planned when the year ended.
Like its predecessor, it was broken into 5 sets of 5 tasks (with the final set only having 3 tasks). Set 1 was won by CSZ, Set 2 was won by fifdspence, Set 3 was won by Rush57, Set 4 was again won by CSZ, Set 5 was won by Nis, and the year as a whole (though not officially tracked) was won by CSZ.
Following the record highs of the previous year, it saw a small drop in activity. Though, it still remains among the most popular TAS competitions of all time. Following the end of the final task, regular competitions were discontinued, due to burnout and increased strain on the hosts. It marked the end of a 726-day stretch during which 48 tasks were run, which remains the longest continuously active stretch of any SM64 TAS competition. When considering other games, this would be surpassed by the MKWii TAS Competition with 794 days (2020–2022) and an ongoing 900+ days (2022–present).
It featured an associated Twitter account for advertising, a partnership with the Global Speedrunning Association (GSA) for reveal streams, a discord bot for automating certain aspects of competition hosting, and the introduction of a new type of compilation video involving ghost comparisons.

=== SM64 TAS Tournament ===
SM64 TAS Tournament | |||
The SM64 TAS Tournament was hosted by SilentSlayers and Superdavo0001. It consisted of 5 rounds, the first four eliminating half of the competitors, and the final crowning the overall winner; Rush57.
It was the first ever competition with a tournament format (where entrants are gradually eliminated), and the first with a monetary prize.

=== EZScape SM64 TAS Tournament ===
EZScape SM64 TAS Tournament
The EZScape SM64 TAS Tournament was organised by EZScape, and hosted by SilentSlayers, Rush57, and CSZ. It consisted of 4 tasks; the first three allowing entrants to earn points before being eliminated, and the final crowning the overall winner; Alexpalix1.
It was the first ever dual-language competition, with the rules and tasks being posted in both English and Japanese. This caused the competition to have the largest presence of TASers from the Japanese TAS community since the Nico TAS Competition. It was also the first (and only) competition to be sponsored by a member outside the TAS community.
It is notable for being the origin of the era meme, and subsequent increase in slide kick strats.

2020 Is Gone TAS Competition was hosted by Madghostek, with help from ERGC | Xander. It lasted for only 1 task, and was created to celebrate the end of 2020 in the absence of any main competition. It was going to continue beyond its first task, but Madghostek couldn't come up with any more ideas. As such, the first task is better known by the name "Task 2020 is gone".

The SM64 TAS Competition is a staple of the SM64 TAS community, and over the years it has inspired many other communities to follow suit, creating their own TAS competitions. Over 400 tasks have been run since the first competition in 2008.

Johannes' TAS Competition
- Main article: Johannes' TAS Competition
Johannes' TAS Competition was hosted by JohannesSM64, following the decline in activity in TAS Competition 2008. It lasted for 6 tasks and was won by Blaze.
It was the first competition hosted on SM64.org, and so has on many occasions been incorrectly labelled as the first TAS competition. It was the first competition to introduce compilation videos.

SilentSlayers' TAS Competition
- Main article: SilentSlayers' TAS Competition
SilentSlayers' TAS Competition was hosted by SilentSlayers, with help from Nahoc, sonicpacker, Moltov, and Mapler90210, following the cancellation of Johannes' TAS Competition. It lasted for 37 tasks, before being cancelled. It was won by sonicpacker.
It was the first competition to run for over 30 tasks, and its final task remains (as of 2025) the highest-numbered task of any TAS competition in history. It remains notable for its consistency of running 1 task almost every single week for 9 months (only missing the week of Christmas 2009), the introduction of co-op tasks, and the number of long-term community members who started TASing in it.

Nahoc's TAS Competition
- Main article: Nahoc's TAS Competition

TAS Competition 2012
- Main article: TAS Competition 2012
TAS Competition 2012 was hosted by sonicpacker. It lasted for only 5 tasks, with the Nico TAS Competition and the 120 Star TAS taking up the rest of 2012.
It was the first competition to be named with respect to the year it was run in, starting a trend that has continued to the present day (in both SM64 TAS competitions and TAS competitions in other communities). This has had the effect of causing competitions to be specifically planned to occur annually, with task numbering and scores resetting at the start of each calendar year.

Nico TAS Competition
- Main article: Nico TAS Competition
The Nico TAS Competition was hosted by coin2884. It closely followed TAS Competition 2012, with the first new task overlapping with its final task. It lasted for 7 tasks, before being cancelled without Task 7 results released (they were posted 6 months later).
It was the first and only known competition to be organised within the Japanese TAS community. Despite the language barrier, it still attracted the attention of entrants from the "Western" community.

TAS Competition 2015
- Main article: TAS Competition 2015

TAS Competition 2016
- Main article: TAS Competition 2016

TAS Competition 2018
- Main article: TAS Competition 2018

TAS Competition 2019
- Main article: TAS Competition 2019

EZScape SM64 TAS Tournament
- Main article: EZScape SM64 TAS Tournament

2020 Is Gone TAS Competition
- Main article: 2020 Is Gone TAS Competition
2020 Is Gone TAS Competition was hosted by Madghostek, with help from ERGC | Xander. It lasted for only 1 task, and was created to celebrate the end of 2020 in the absence of any main competition. It was going to continue beyond its first task, but Madghostek couldn't come up with any more ideas. As such, the first task is better known by the name "Task 2020 is gone".
