After using the pendulum box pedro spot to reach the upper hand, Mario has quite a bit of leftover vertical speed. If his ascent could be interrupted using the hand, that vertical speed could be conserved and relocated to a spot closer to the thwomp. The idea is then to trigger the VSC and land on the thwomp, saving an A press.
The three main methods to do this are-
* Wait until Mario is as close to the thwomp as possible, and then activate the VSC. Unfortunately, this will result in Mario facing almost 90 degrees away from the thwomp, and so is likely not feasible.
* Increase the distance from mario to the thwomp, but get an angle facing closer to the thwomp.
* Clip up from the hand to the treadmill while still conserving VS, allowing Mario to get closer to the thwomp before activating it.
