Super Mario 64 DS is a remake of Super Mario 64 on the DS console. This remake also includes new stars, areas, playable characters... All of the game has been remade from scratch, that means that the physics, the models, the textures, everything has been redone and recoded.

New playable Characters

Nintendo added 3 playable characters :
You start the game with Yoshi, and need to collect 8 stars at least to unlock Mario in the stage "Goomboss Battle", then with 15 stars, you can go in Big Boo's Haunt, where a new painting is here, representing luigi. In this stage, "Big Boo Battle", you can unlock Luigi. Then after beating the second Bowser, you can go with luigi in the room that contains the Snowman's Land painting and use the new power flowers to get through the mirror and unlock Wario in the stage "Chief Chilly Challenge".

  • Yoshi can flutter jump and eat ennemies, then turn them into eggs and throw them at other ennemies, but he cannot break Orange or Black Blocks. His power ability is to spit fire during a time limit.
  • Mario jumps the highest, runs the fastest and is the only one who can open big Stardoors. He is the only to be able to walljump. He has two power abilities: The Wing Cap, allowing him to fly like in Mario 64, and the Ballon, allowing him to float by pressing A.
  • Luigi is the fastest swimmer, and he can twirl after backflipping, just like after jumping on a Spindrift. His power ability is similar to the Vanish Cap in SM64, he can turn invisible and pass through certain walls.
  • Wario is slow everywhere, but his unique strength allows him to break Black Blocks. His power ability is similar to the Metal Cap, he can walk underwater and is immuned to most ennemies.
