"Backwards shell hyperspeed" is gaining backwards speed constantly by riding a shell and going backwards via slopes. This can be used again on a nearby slope to continually gain backwards speed. This is used in the [[A Button Challenge|A button challenge]].

While riding on a shell, move upwards on a slope. You'll notice [[mario]] moving backwards. If you angle mario slightly uphill, almost parallel to the slope, you gain backwards speed. Keep doing this to gain a lot of backwards speed, and possibly clip through walls

Backwards Shell Hyperspeed is a method of attaining Hyperspeed whereby Mario rides on a shell atop certain steep slopes to increase his backwards speed. This technique can be used multiple times in a row on one or more slopes to further increase Mario's speed.

Execution

While riding on a shell, move Mario to a steep slope. Angle Mario parallel to the slope and observe that Mario will begin moving backwards while gaining speed. Once the slope runs out, one can repeat this process on the same slope or a different slope to continually gain speed.
