The Vanish Cap can be obtained by breaking a blue [!] block. These blocks will only be activated after the Vanish Cap Switch in Vanish Cap under the Moat is pressed.
The Vanish Cap has the ability to turn Mario invisible for 20 seconds. Vanish Mario can walk through enemies, metal fences, and certain walls.
The music played is the same music as played for the Wing Cap[1] and for Mario riding a shell.[2]
Glitches
The Vanish Cap can be used to perform the Hat in Hand glitch.
The top of the Vanish Cap Switch is 247 units above the ground, so in the A Button Challenge it was thought impossible to get onto the switch using misalignment. However, the base of the Switch, is 72 units high, which makes the units left to the top 175. By first clipping onto the base of the switch and then using misalignment, the switch can be pressed with 0x A presses[3]
Courses
The Vanish Cap can used in the following courses:
- Big Boo's Haunt (3x)
- Dire, Dire Docks (1x)
- Snowman's Land (1x)
- Wet-Dry World (2x)
- Vanish Cap under the Moat (2x + Switch)
Use in Challenges
The Vanish Cap may not be used specifically more in any challenge, but the ability to go through metal fences makes it possible to collect otherwise unobtainable stars.
